Mythbusters, IIRC, tested if with enough forward acceleration it would be possible to cancel out the acceleration a cannonball would receive once fired, thus making it exit the cannon as if it wasn't moving at all.

so that truck was at a standstill, and started accelerating when the cannon was fired, or was it moving at a constant velocity?

I think it was moving at a constant speed, but I don't remember much of it now.
